reminder for all the hunters and guides. As the day brightened and the
gobblers welcomed the morning sun, the hunters were once again
greeted with one of the wonders of spring. The morning brought forth
a bright blue sky and temperatures quickly warming past 70 degrees
and turkeys that soon became less and less vocal. Once again the
hunters were foiled by the weary and often fickle game birds, but all
enjoyed a beautiful morning. As the morning began to wane the
hunters started to assemble once again at the mine office for some
much needed lunch. As the day and the stories went on it was clear
that several young turkey hunters were definitely in the making. After
a gracious lunch the hunters were off to enjoy a little fishing in one of
the many nearby mine reclamation ponds. The turkeys may not have
cooperated, but the fish were more than willing to tug a line as several
of the young hunters caught and released several bluegill, crappie,
and bass.

Another year has come and gone quickly and the Logan Area Chapter
has enjoyed another great Jakes event. We would like to thank
Coal-Mac and Magnum Coal Companies and their landowners for
allowing the chapter this opportunity to introduce these young hunters
to the sport and the overwhelming hospitality they have shown. The
chapter also looks forward to many more years of being able to hold
Jakes events and have them be successful, but this can only be done
with the support and dedication of the corporate sponsors, the
volunteers, and the National Wild Turkey Federation. Once again the
Logan Area Chapter would like to thank Coal-Mac, Inc. and Magnum
Coal for their support and efforts to allow the Jakes hunts to continue
to be a success and it would also like to thank all of its volunteers who
work so hard to make the hunts possible. Now if we can only get the
turkeys to cooperate!
