additional monies to the WV-DNR for the Beury Mountain Wildlife Management Area in Fayette County, West Virginia. Over 7000 acres of public land has been acquired for all types of hunters by the State Super Fund providing wildlife habitat and additional public hunting areas funding. HABITAT ENHANCEMENT monies of $138,210 have been appropriated for a combined acreage of 1,573 acres within the state. OUTREACH EVENTS spending now totals $130,452. Our state NWTF chapters introduce youth, women and people with disabilities to outdoor activities, conservation and hunting through our JAKES, Women in the Outdoors, and Wheelin Sportsmen NWTF. Nearly 200 events have been conducted throughout the state. EDUCATION dollars are important and we have proven that commitment with $84,526 spent for college scholarships, education boxes, 4-H and teacher workshops! RESEARCH on wild turkey, including radio telemetry equipment has now been funded with $49,312 of Hunting Heritage Banquet monies. MANAGEMENT monies on wild turkey check stations, poaching rewards in support of law enforcement, and turkey surveys now totals nearly $9000. HUNTING HERITAGE monies are used for protecting and promoting our hunting heritage within our state. The United States Sportsmen’s Alliance and National Shooting Sports Foundation have seen donations from West Virginia chapters totaling $42,750 dollars. HUNTER SAFETY has always been important to our membership. To support hunter safety the chapters have donated $8,735 for initiatives in the state to purchase hunter safety materials and interactive shooting systems. Our youth have benefited with keen insights into ethical hunting and safety in the woods and fields of our state. |
